I use this book to introduce an end of the fourth grade school year. After reading and discussing the book, the students bring a shoe box to school, and one small item for everyone in the class. One of the last days of school, the kids explain why they chose what they are giving to every, and then pass the item out. It has become something the new students who have siblings that were in a previous class, look forward to. Sometimes emotional, sometimes silly, always fun.
