A very enjoyable movie that makes one think, "What would I do with some time off I wasn't planning on?" Al Fountain (John Turtorro) encounters such a dilemma when his job site unexpectedly closes down. Al rents a car and embarks on a journey, telling his wife at home he will be home for the 4th of July. Along the way he seeks out a favorite childhood lake and runs in to The Kid, who is stranded by the road with a broken down car. It's at this point to one thinks this movie is turning out to be a Summer version of "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" but the unique chemistry between Turtorro and The Kid (Sam Rockwell) is enjoyable and pulls you in. The Kid lives off the grid, and for kicks steals and resells lawn ornaments from the locals. A frustrated and impatient Al seems to be on the verge of getting on his way, but a quirk in the adventure keeps Al from leaving. The adventures are enjoyable, from a tomato fight, making jumps into a nearby swimming hole, to meeting up with a couple local girls (played by Catherine Keener and Lisa Blount) keep the laughs coming, but it's also a film with alot of heart.
