I purchased this disc due to Bear Family's reputation for peerless country reissues and my love of the lead track "Jean Sheppard = Two Whoops and a Holler". I figured if that was an indicator of things to come, I wouldn't be disappointed…and I wasn't. This is delivers exactly what the title implies…a decent cross section of female singers from the mid/late 50's playing in a variety of rural styles that one might have heard in a jukebox at the time. Most of this leans to the country side, but there are a few pop elements and rockers as well…but all the tracks are blended seamlessly. Quite a classy collection. This is the first in a series and I am looking forward to some deeper digs on a few of these belles….I would especially love a single disc distillation of Jean Sheppard….the Bear Family box is a bit too much for me and one song is definitely too little! Keep it coming Bear Family!
