Of the many bands Billy Childish has fronted since the late 70's (Pop Rivits, Thee Mighty Caesars, Thee Headcoats, Buff Medways, etc.) the Milkshakes are the most accessible and the best introduction to his sound. Partly this is due to the group's concept - updating the Beatles during their Hamburg days - and partly because Billy splits the lead vocal duties with the less nasal sounding Mickey Hampshire. This box collects four of the nine albums the band released (Talkin' Bout, After School Session, They Came They Saw They Conquered, Revenge). It's all rough and ready garage rock, good for dancing to or just raving in clubs. The sound doesn't vary much except on They Came, where several tracks use a fuzz box on the guitars. In any case, it's value for money, and if you like what you find here you dig in further with Billy's other groups, all of whom have fiscs available on the Damaged Goods label.
