When this CD was compiled it was becoming clear that Dub Step was going overground, as DJs and artists had appropriated some of the more obvious sounds. So it seems that Soul Jazz have eschewed the unsubtle moneyspinning sounds hitting the charts and high street malls both here and in the US for something in keeping with the tradition of Anglo-Caribean Sound System and Urban Bass Culture. That isn't to say that these tracks are slave to tradition in fact though you will recognize many elements of Dub Reggae, these elements are re-cast into new powerful expressions of urban claustrophobia and isolation, which are sonically designed fior dark room experience.When all the big dogs have left and Dub Step has become a dirty word the music on this release will stand as an example of progressive and cutting edge underground culture and perhaps will evolve into another new form.
