Description
Ed Rush & Optical are two of the best known DJ/producers in the drum ‘n’ bass, and dance music scene. Before the two created the now legendary Virus label, they had already made quite a name for themselves – while Optical was engineering for Grooverider, Goldie, and Jumping Jack Frost, Ed Rush was releasing materials for seminal labels such as No-U-Turn and Prototype. They have DJ’d in virtually every corner of the globe, and done remixes for top producers like Josh Wink, Reprazent, and most recently Candi Staton’s "You’ve Got the Love," the song that was featured on HBO’s hit series Sex and the City. They’ve also appeared on many of the biggest drum ‘n’ bass labels including Prototype, V Recordings and the legendary Metalheadz. Their first artist album Wormhole is widely regarded as the best drum ‘n’ bass album of all time. For Out of The Box, Ed Rush & Optical have put together a killer selection of dance floor hits from the genre – featuring heavyweight tracks from Dillinja, J Majik, SS and many more. Bonus DVD features a documentary about the artists, including tour diary footage, exclusively shot DJ sets at WMC 2004, Toronto, and Switzerland, numerous special in-depth interviews, a special 10-minute clip with production tips, also brief interviews with Andy C, Red One, and Fierce talking about the impact of Ed Rush & Optical on the drum ‘n’ bass scene.

Wish I could not rate this mix cd and just review it because I will always respect Ed Rush and Optical, but this track selection is a perfect demonstration of how a lot of d and b got lame with the clownstep, jump up and general synthetic mess of tracks that just don't sound good or hold up for posterity. A couple of good tunes on here of course like MIST, but this was a illuminating precursor of how mainstream d and b would get increasingly lame. Big ups for all the awesome tracks these two have produced though! There are many.
