I purchased this 2006 Bach edition in July, 2017 and am very happy with the results. This Brilliant Classics release is a budget set, but very good quality for the $90 (58 cents per disc!) I paid for it.My main reason for purchase was the sacred Cantatas, presented here in 1999 recordings by the Holland Boy Choir,Netherlands Bach Collegium (period instruments) and soloists including Ruth Holton and Bas Ramseller directed by Pieter Jan Leusink. These are definite Chamber performances: small orchestra, but well recorded. Leusink'S BWV 1 and 140 are both excellent; he doesn't drag tempos as many conductors do.If you are looking for a good set of Johann Sebastian Bach's Cantatas, and don't mind period instruments, this may fill the bill. If you already have the Cantatas led by John Eliot Gardiner (SDG), Helmuth Rilling (Hanssler) or Masaaki Suzuki (BIS), you don't need this. The solo keyboard works here are all harpsichord. The Violin Concertos are good (grade B), not excellent. I like Trevor Pinnock/English Concert (DG Archiv) for the harpsichord and violin Concertos. This is one excellent bargain. No texts for choral works; check Wikipedia for those: list of Bach Cantatas is invaluable.
