Let me start by stating that we did NOT use this as a cigar box so I am not able to speak to its use as intended. My husband actually used this to make a guitar for my preschooler. It worked perfectly. The wood is good quality and we have not had any issues with it holding up even though our son is not gentle with it. Also, I have not had any issues with it splintering anywhere. We would definitely buy this again. No complaints.
