Took about 20 spins but I've finally `gotten' this release.Produced by Magnus Kristensson and Christopher Hermodsson this album was released by Lion Music in 2004 and does a range of things right. Firstly no silly growls and there is no desperation to fill every nook and cranny with noise. The production is kind of traditional, there are enough peaks and valleys in the sound and things aren't super plush which aids the bands self chosen remit of walking that fine line between hard rock and metal. The band of Alf Wemmenlind (V), Anton Johansson (B), Tomas Djurfedt (keys), Magnus Kristensson (G) and Mats Bagentz (D) have here constructed a disc that plays very well from beginning to end - a rare achievement in any genre - and you would therefore be right in assuming that the band goes up and down the gears during the ten numbers on offer. And it's this ability to address a spectrum of speeds that impressed me first about this album. There are, overall, a few ball drops however small they may be and they largely centre on a couple of tracks outstaying their welcome - Do Your Worst being the worst offender and the title track also being somewhat guilty of this crime. That aside the solidity of this album is pretty darn consistent whether in hard rockin' mode such as the opener which at the heavier end of the bands spectrum or on the melodic touches of The Hunger and parts in between. Though this very uniformity of quality does accentuate the absence (IMHO) the lack of any truly killer `can't live without' track.I'm giving this four stars as the album is a quality release, nice solid instrumentation and Alf does have a good, median range voice with enough roughness to make this stand out a little in from a plethora of melodic rock acts under the weight of which the worlds release roster is threatening to buckle.
