I first became aware of Johnny Rodgers when he co-produced a Lee Lessack CD back in the mid-2000's and conducted for Lee at a show where the CD was introduced. I'm a big fan of Lee but, to be honest, the live show seemed to lack energy till Johnny came out and did some numbers with his band. The energy level zoomed. Fast forward to now and I saw he had a new CD out. I'm not a big Billy Joel fan so it, to me, does a disservice to Johnny to compare him to Joel. My only beef with this CD is that the material is a little uneven, with a couple of cuts that I could do without. But they are more than made up for by the great stuff. You can't sit still during "Home to Mendocino", and when is the last time when "...kissing your lips when they're tender and old" was one of the sweetest love song lyrics you've heard, as in "Sweet Georgia Smile"? "Movin' into Graceland" is another energy jolt. Definitely recommended.
