Amazon tells me that I bought this in August 2014. It's now April 2019, and one of the hinges has rusted away. This has been a great mailbox, and I'm getting another one.Update, July 2023... Rusted (and broken) hinges again. I still love this mailbox, and am here to buy my third one. Not a terrible lifespan, but it's sad and frustrating when this happens. I wish they would use better hinges, at least. (Pro tip: a piece of duct tape works in the short term. Or longer term, if you prefer. It just doesn't look great.)I live in Maine, and do not have a porch or anything... this has been attached to the house next to my front door all this time. It is seriously exposed to the elements. The most I ever do is scrape some ice or snow off the top, and only because I was thinking it was helping to protect my mail, not because I was thinking about rust. It might be a smidge rusty on the corners, but nothing like what I've seen here, so maybe I was just lucky?Love the large size -- I get a lot of small packages and this was part of the reason for choosing this particular mail box. But it's attractive as well.
